What is the difference between training and behavior modification?

Training is teaching dogs cues, such as sit, down, and stay. Behavior modification is working to change an underlying emotion. Aggression, anxiety, and reactivity are all candidates for behavior modification.

How many training sessions do you think will be needed?

A basketball coach cannot tell you how long it will take you to master the perfect jump shot. A piano teacher cannot tell you how long it will take for you to learn Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. I cannot tell you how long it will take for your dog to learn the cues we seek to teach due to various individual factors (breed, age, sex, and more). Much like learning the perfect jump shot or how to play piano, you will get out of training what you put into it.

What do your packages include?

In addition to the number of sessions, packages also include a custom training and/or behavior modification plan, training manuals and videos sent when applicable, plus unlimited support via email, text, or phone call (text preferred) for quick troubleshooting in between sessions during office hours. Any changes needed for training and behavior modification plans will also be included.

What about phone consults?

Phone consultations are great for asking questions about specific scenarios (my dog did this, should I be worried?), and behaviors such as potty training and/or crate training without wanting additional training. A phone consultation will last ten to thirty minutes. The price is the same regardless of time.

Do you travel?

Yes, but I charge a travel fee. The travel fee is $1.00 per mile, round trip per trip for areas outside of Lexington.

What if I need you at my house for my dog at specific times?

We can work out a schedule ahead of time and Devin will schedule around it. Keep in mind that if that schedule prevents her from taking her normal appointments, it will result in an additional charge.

Do you guarantee results?

I do not guarantee results. It is up to the owners to work in between sessions and to keep up that work. Just like learning a foreign language, if you don’t use it you lose it. It is important to continue working with your dog long after training is over.

What methods of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, cards, paypal, venmo, and bank transfers. 

When is payment due?

A 50% non-refundable deposit is due at the time of consult. You must pay 50% of the final amount in order to reserve your dates. This is especially true for dog sitting. The remaining amount is due at the end of the first session. For behavior modification and consultations, the total amount should be paid before our appointment.

Do you offer payment plans?

Payment plans can be customized based on what is easy and manageable for you. However, services will not begin until full payment has been received. No refunds for amount already paid should the client change their mind.

What are your office hours?

My office hours are Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., Saturdays 10:00 a.m.-2p.m. I am closed Sundays and the last two Mondays of every month.

 

Do you train service dogs?

No, this is not a service that we provide.
